Survival Flint Striker
An effective fire starter is an artificial flint striker. There are a number of different shapes and designs available on the market. To use it, you scrape hard to produce a shower of sparks to catch your fire.

The flint striker is a useful part of any survival kit.
It is light to carry and will work in any conditions, wet or dry.

Outdoor survival under a Bivi shelter.

This is a picture of a night in the woods.
This is the Bivvi shelter that I put up to camp under.
One of the Bivi shelters has a hammock under it, just a foot from floor level.
Part of a good nights survival is being dry, so with the Bivi shelter to keep of
the rain and a foot off the ground so that the sleeping bag does not get wet.

Outdoor Survival Gear. There are many outdoor survival stores both on line and high street stores.

so lets get started with a few tip on outdoor survival and the correct equipment to use for the great outdoors.

Part of survival is to be prepared for almost anything that the elements may throw at you.

A good survival kit should always have a few of these key survival items. In a small tin you should have some matches or a lighter flint. If you have matches before you put them in your tin take a candle light it and let the hot wax melt over the match ends to stop them from getting wet or damp. This will make sure that when you come to striking the matches they are dry. carry also in your tin a stick of chalk this is good for 2 things making a mark in thick woodland to make sure that you are not going round and round. Second use is that if you get a upset stomach chew a little of the chalk and it should help settle it. In your survival tin carry a razor blade this is used for any cutting that you may need to do, after all you could lose your survival knife. You will also need in your survival kit tin a needle and thread, you may need to repair your clothing or tent. A few safety pins will also be good to carry. A fish hook and a few yards of fishing line. Make sure your survival kit has a snare, this is a pice of wire that can be tied to the ground by a home made peg and looped at the other end to form a noose. This is used to catch rabbits or small animals. A pice of reflective metal or mirror. This is ok for sending light reflective signals to passing plane.
